This exposure the medical students came to Barangay Camul with problems in mind along with their own ideas on how to tackle such problems, one such problem was the problem of unsafe drinking water in Brgy. Camul. This problem is not a new one, since it had been identified from the very start. The problem though not new, was also not insignificant since all 6 water samples collected from the various water sources in the community returned with results positive for E. coli which could mean that these water sources may be contaminated and therefore may pose a health risk to many of the residents who use this water for drinking.
Recognizing the magnitude of the problem, the Project leader of Tubig nga Limpyo sa Camul, Abuhayier Ibni, lobbied for the improvement of these water sources. That is why the team, upon revisiting the different water sources are greatly appreciative of the great effort of the barangay council in continuing to upgrade water sources as proposed by the medical students from previous exposures such as improving water tanks facility and decreasing the risk of contamination. More so than just improving on the present waterworks system, is the expansion of its reach to cover the residents of Purok 7, the farthest purok from the Poblacion.
The medical students recognize the progress done so far but also the amount of work needed to be done. Together with a community capable of taking matters into their own hands, hopefully the problem of unsafe drinking water will no longer plague Brgy. Camul
It is through the recognition of the problem that the next steps may be taken. It is through these actions that the people take control of their lives and turn problems into opportunities to innovate solutions. It is through these sentiments that the people of the community may learn little by little to appreciate the true value of water.
