DIABETES DAY


During this exposure, our team screened for diabetes risk among the residents of Camul ages 40 years and up. Out of the 129 residents screened, 11 was classified as high risk, 15 as moderate risk, 43 as slightly elevated risk and 60 as low risk.

On the day of the activity, the residents who were classified as having high and moderate risk were invited. The barangay captain, Hon. Pelagio Trinidad, the kagawad on health, Bernadita Gulagula and the barangay health workers were also invited to the activity.

After explaining flow and the purpose of the activity, 21 participants took a 15-item pretest with 2 participants with the top score of 13 and a mean score of 5.67

A lecture about Diabetes Mellitus was given by our very own Yasmin B. Macabada. The lecture that included what diabetes mellitus is, the types of diabetes, how diabetes is diagnosed, and the symptoms of diabetes, the possible complications of diabetes, treatment and prevention of diabetes.

A question and answer session was held after the lecture where any questions that the audience had about the topic were answered by the medical students

The participants took the posttest with 3 participants with the top score of 15 and a mean score of 9.67.

23 attendees, among whom 4 were known diabetics, had random blood glucose testing done which resulted in 20, including 3 diabetics, within the normal range and 3, including 1 diabetic, within the range of impaired glucose tolerance.

The high scorers for the pretest and posttest were recognized at the end of program.

A post activity evaluation was done, where selected participants were asked to provide feedback about the activity.
