Bantay Altapresyon Program June-July 2019

Hypertension has been identified as one of the top Health-Related problems in Barangay Camul. In line with this, Team Camul has come up with diverse activities with regards to Hypertension. The program designed for this is called the “Bantay Altapresyon Program” or simply called BAP.

Last July 3, 2019, Team Camul conducted the “Bantay Altapresyon Day” wherein more than 100 individuals participated in the activity including Senior Citizens and individuals who were diagnosed with Hypertension. Some other family members also joined in the activity as a show of support to their relatives with hypertension. This activity has been seen as a very effective manner of reminding the constituents about their medication compliance. The participants were given their very own ‘Bantay Altapresyon Kits’ which included their Hygiene supplies, Vitamins, Over-the-counter medications, own Bantay Altapresyon Passports which will serve as their Passport to Wellness and their individual Hypertensive Medications. However, only 30 individuals received medications from the RHU since the rest were non-compliant the past months. Fortunately, the other participants still received medications from donations received by the Team through private individuals who extended their help. Other receivables were also purchased through donations.

For the past months, medication compliance has been a problem especially since the assigned Nurse under the Nurse Deployment Program was no longer around. Moreover, since the nurse or other Rural Health Unit worker was no longer able to deliver medications to the barangay, this caused a big drop in the compliance from February to June 2019. Hence, one of the objectives of the Bantay Altapresyon Day was to re-establish the importance of medication compliance to control the patients’ blood pressure.

A Health Teaching Class was conducted to reiterate and emphasize on the importance of the program as well as remind the individuals of the lifestyle modifications and ways to improve their health. It was evident that the constituents were blessed and happy to receive their medications. They did not just show their cooperation through attendance but also by participating in the games and question and answer portion done after the class. They were delighted to receive prizes for their cooperation.

Furthermore, 3 BP Apparatuses were endorsed to the Barangay and was received by Mrs. Bernandita Gulagula, the Chairman for Committee on Health. One (1) unit of Digital BP App and Two (2) units of Manual BP App were acquired through donations and endorsed to the Barangay Health Workers respectively.

Three (3) BP Stations were also identified wherein, tarpaulins were installed for identification of BP stations for 3 puroks.

The Barangay Health Workers performed their Return Demonstration of BP Taking to improve their professional skills and to be able to apply it in their assigned BP Stations. The BHWs felt empowered that they will be able to do more with the supplies that they newly acquired all for the betterment of the barangay.

Lastly, last July 9, 2019 the Health Coordinator, BHWs together with the new BP Patrollers had their return demonstration. Afterwards, they had the installation of BP Station in the 3 Puroks respectively.
