RABIES-FREE CAMUL

We from Team Camul as mandated by the AdZU-SOM’s mission to help provide solutions to our community’s problem, started a program called “RABIES-FREE CAMUL” in which it targets one the issues brought up by the people, the problem with dogs, high number of unvaccinated dogs, dog bites and dog-related road accidents. The program aims to surpass the national target for Dog Vaccination, by reaching above 70% and at the same time help promote responsible dog ownership to further boost the sustainability of this program. In coordination with the Department of Agriculture/Municipal Agriculturist Office and Barangay Officials we set out to find remedy in this worrisome case. On this exposure we first sought the aid of the MAO/DA for guidance on the proper procedure in conducting a mass vaccination. Second, we made sure that we had an organized system in place for registration and a recording of the over-all status of the dogs and the pet-owners in which, it resulted to the creation of the municipal animal health booklet. Third, we conducted house-to-house visits to formulate the master list of dogs in Barangay Camul and made a recommendation from the Barangay to the DA/MAO for the training of our Barangay Dog catcher and vaccinator. Fourth, we held a seminar with the help of the DA/MAO which sent a representative as a resource person, in which we tackled the topic on rabies awareness and Responsible pet ownership. And lastly, we sought for a dialogue with the Barangay Council, and the public for a creation of a Barangay ordinance catered to the needs of the community

and focuses on the responsible pet ownership aspects. In which it will be brought up on the next barangay session for deliberation. As for the future activities, we hope to achieve the vaccination of the dogs, the barangay ordinance and expand the knowledge on rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership more.
