PRENATAL CHECKUP, IMMUNIZATION & BP MEDS DISPENSING WITH THE RHU NURSE AND BHWs

One of the problems identifies by the group is concerning the poor utilization of maternal and child health care services in the barangay. During our previous exposure, we assisted the NDP nurse for the prenatal check up of pregnant women and immunizing children below 5 years old in the barangay hall. However, we noticed that only 3 pregnant women were able to come for the monthly check up. In this sem’s exposure, we were able to assist in another prenatal check up and had a 100% attendance among the pregnant women. However, only few came for immunization. Additionally, we simultaneously conducted a one-on-one health teaching/ lecture among pregnant women and mothers who had their children immunized. We distributed reading materials in Visayan dialect and discussed on the importance of immunization including the schedule for each vaccine, importance of prenatal care and the importance of facility-based delivery. It was a half day activity and barangay health workers were also present to help in BP monitoring using automatic apparatuses. Dispensing of maintenance medications for hypertensive individuals was also done.
